Just got off the phone with XBOX Live. It takes 3 minutes to enter your corporate card to sign up for one month membership on the console to be able to do a demo at CES, and over 30 minutes on the phone (you cannot cancel on the console or online) to cancel this recurring charge. What a pain!

In retrospect, here’s what I should have done:

  1. Call (800) 4MY-XBOX = 1-800-469-9269
  2. Ask to cancel subscription, give your vitals, get their name/employee code, and get reference code from first person to answer phone. When they try and transfer you to another person, hang up. The second person, in the billing department, ate up all the time on the phone (first person took 5 minutes, and then transferred me to the “billing department”, who took 30 minutes.)
  3. If they try and charge you, dispute the charge and quote the reference code above. Remember, they don’t have your signature.

Had a similar experience with xbox customer service…my problem was amplified however when she (not American) told me I was billed last year on July 4, 2009???( which was 3 days earlier) also, I wasn’t sure where she was going with this because it was a yearly subscription that originated in Dec of 2007. I then asked her 6 times to speak with her supervisor and after the 6th time she put me on hold for 5 minutes hoping for me to hang up I presume. She then came back on the line and said they would be nice enough to give me a refund on the annual charge that was billed on a 1 and 1/2 year period just 3 days prior to me asking for a cancellation because my son had quit using it…..wow….I’m pleased………What a country! This only took 22 minutes to resolve……:)
